Deepak Butani

Deepak Butani joined WSFSSH in July 2024 and comes to us with an extensive background in the Not-for-Profit sector. He started his career at Bronx Works and from there he moved to the American Red Cross and WHEDco.  During the last 17 years, he has held senior leadership positions as CFO/VP-Finance & Operations at Care for the Homeless, International House, Volunteers of America and BDO. Deepak is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and is a Certified Management Accountant. He has earned a Master’s in Finance  degree from Thomas Jefferson University and Master’s in Law degree from Temple University and was awarded the Executive Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership from Harvard Kennedy School.

Jillian Shagan

Jillian Shagan is the Managing Director of Strategy and Impact at the West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing (WSFSSH). Before joining WSFSSH in 2024, she worked for over twenty years at the Center for Justice Innovation (the Center), an organization focused on community safety and justice system reform. During her tenure at the Center, she took on multiple leadership roles, including overseeing the Center’s fundraising efforts as Director of Development and shepherding neighborhood safety and gun violence prevention efforts as the Director of Community Health and Safety Strategies. Before that, she was Director of Immigration Services at Lutheran Family and Community Services, working with migrants seeking asylum. Jill has a B.A. from Oberlin College and a law degree from the New York University School of Law.

Ria Bustamante

Ria Bustamante has been at WSFSSH for over 20 years. She started as the Clinical Coordinator of the West 74th Street Home from 2001-2008, and Clinical Coordinator of the 129th Street Residence from 2008-2015. In 2015, Ria joined the central support staff as Assistant Director of Clinical and Social Services. In 2021, she was promoted to her current of Managing Director of Clinical and Social Services.

Ria earned her B.A. in Psychology from Rutgers University, and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Hunter College. She also completed postgraduate analytic training and has a certificate in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.

Paul Freitag

Paul R. Freitag joined the West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) in 2015 as the Executive Director. With over 20 years of experience in affordable housing and social services, Paul previously worked at Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens and Jonathan Rose Companies as a Managing Director. At WSFSSH, he oversees housing development, social services, and asset management, ensuring the well-being of tenants and staff.

Paul serves as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors. He holds a B.A. and a B.S. from Brown University, a Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Urban Planning from City College of New York.
